Sustainable and Community-Minded Wood Products

Our Story

Living Wood Creations was started in 2018 by Jon Roach. When he started the business, he aimed to produce beautiful, handcrafted wood products in a way that was sustainable, personal, and supported his community. Based in Oregon, Wisconsin, Living Wood Creations settles for nothing less than excellence in custom woodworking.

Jon has asserted himself as a top-notch craftsman in the area and runs his business from a local workshop, creating solid wood furniture and specialty craft wood for local customers. Using his wide side mill and a network of local arborists, tree services, and sawmills, Jon is able to produce first-rate wood that is great for custom projects and DIY hobbyists.

Sustainably Focused

Jon focuses strongly on sustainability within his company. He loves the challenges and opportunities to problem-solve when working with renewably sourced wood. He's able to divert local wood from ending up in the landfill by using logs from tree removals in the area when at all possible. He also looks to reuse and recycle production waste and minimize the footprint he leaves behind. Your support helps boost the mission to utilize wood waste.

Committed to Urban Wood Education

Jon understands that the quality of the wood he uses is of the utmost importance for customer satisfaction. As a member of the Wisconsin Urban Wood organization, he strives to raise awareness and educate consumers on the benefits and beauty of using this type of wood. By showing his clients how the process works and how he utilizes urban wood, he’s able to not only offer a memorable experience but also build a common understanding of its benefits.

Because his father was a general contractor, Jon grew up around construction. Over the years, he absorbed a love of working with his hands. However, he stumbled into woodworking on his own. It turned out to be an excellent way to cope with the stress from his day job as a firefighter and paramedic in Janesville, Wisconsin.

Jon not only uses woodworking to destress but also practices mindfulness and meditation. As an advocate for mental health awareness, especially in frontline workers, he points out that studies have shown meditation can reduce stress and help with most people's overall well-being.

You'll also be likely to find Jon unwinding in the outdoors. He loves hunting, fishing, hiking, and foraging in Wisconsin's beautiful countryside with his family. His wife and two children are the center of his life, and he strives to teach his daughters to appreciate everything the area has to offer.
